New catalysts for polyester polymerization without heavy metals are being actively developed due to their eco-friendly nature. Toyobo has successfully developed a creative and revolutionary catalyst activation technique that dramatically improves the catalytic activity of aluminum, which had until now been considered a poor activity.
The polyester manufactured using this catalyst is superior overall in terms of polymer color tone, thermal stability and manufacturing cost compared to polyester made using established catalysts such as antimony, germanium or titanium. This new development has attracted considerable attention from polyester manufacturers around the world.
Development of finer wiring and denser packaging in electronic device fabrication has advanced dramatically, furthering the realization of an ubiquitous society. In the electronics device fabrication, an insulator film with a minimal dimensional change under a thermal cycling is critically desired in the devices. This is because it should ensure a better thermal reliability and process yield of products.
XENOMAX®, newly developed by Toyobo, shows a very low CTE (Coefficient of Thermal Expansion) of about 0∼3ppm/K, nearly equal to that of silicon, which has never been achieved with conventional organic films. Toyobo has also developed a film of just five microns-one of the world's thinnest insulation films-which has been certified by UL. Toyobo has a strategic plan to bring this film to the advanced microelectronics component market within two years.
